Arts and Crafts Activities: Homemade Puffy Paints

Homemade puffy paints are so easy to make – and you probably already have the stuff you need. It’s just shaving cream, glue, and food coloring (if you want colors).
I only had shaving gel, but it worked fine. Just whip it up before adding the glue. You want to use about 3 parts shaving cream to one part glue.
I have seen this activity on numerous sites, usually in a moon craft (most recently at No Time for Flashcards). Since we are reading On the Moon by Anna Milbourne I wanted to make one, too.
We used black cardstock for this, but we also used construction paper and both worked fine. I recommend drawing a circle with chalk or something so your preschooler can just stay inside the line. The white puffy paint also makes nice clouds.
This activity was so quick we wanted more, so we added some colors….T requested a dinosaur with spots, so I obliged as best I could. The googley eyes stay on when the paint dries. I imagine you could stick on sequins, glitter, or any number of things.
This is T’s masterpiece….that’s trees, a sun, and clouds, can’t you tell? This is going right on the fridge!
In all this was a unique, quick, and super easy art activity. Who can ask for more than that?
